Fremont Fair

The Fremont Fair is a Summer Solstice celebration in a Seattle neighborhood called Fremont. We had heard a lot about the fair, so we decided that we needed to go see what it was all about. Even though we had heard stories, actually being there was something we will never forget! The Fremont Fair starts off with a parade, and the first half is dedicated to naked bike riders. Yup, you heard me, naked bikers. We did not know what to expect, so we got a spot in the parade line and waited. Suddenly, we saw some bikers, and from a distance they looked fully clothed, but the closer they got, we could see that they were fully painted. That's right, each biker was painted in different types of things from flowers to basketball jerseys. But that was it, just the paint was used to cover them up. Being from Utah, I can say, it was shocking, but the energy everyone was projecting was amazing. Seriously, it was amazing to see them all having so much fun, and just enjoying life and celebrating the Summer Solstice. After the bikers, it was a little more like a normal parade...well, kind of. :)

Belly dancers doing some cool dancing. Notice how grey and rainy it is for the Summer Solstice?

A giant fish...

A bubble maker float. The streets were covered in bubbles!

A giant monster thing.

Some weird underwater man things...

Super giant beach ball.

And...a flying spaghetti monster!

After the parade is finished, it ends at Gas Works Park, and apparently they have a huge party and people just stay there all day. We didn't end up over there, we wanted to check out the street fair. We walked to the other end of the parade, and even tho so many people were following the parade, there were too many people in the street fair, we couldn't even see an opening to get in. So instead we found a pub and got some yummy food and hung out for awhile trying to let people leave so we could find a cab to get back home. Such an interesting experience it turned out to be, and I'm glad we were able to experience it.
